What’s shaping the future of cosmetics?

2025 05 12

This spring, Gintarė Mykolaitienė, Head of the New Product Laboratory at BIOK LAB, joined our lab and marketing teams at one of the world’s leading ingredient-focused events — the in-cosmetics Global exhibition in Amsterdam.

Here’s her expert take on where innovation is heading:

1. Raw materials are ideas in progress. The spotlight was on breakthrough structures like water-breaking emulsions, touch-activated textures, and reverse-phase systems — ingredients that unlock new creative potential.

2. Not every trend is ready — and that’s okay. Some, like nanoparticles, still require more research. "There’s value in waiting until the science is solid,” says Gintarė.

3. Effectiveness matters — but so do the sensory experience, user perception, and overall aesthetic.

4. Innovation takes patience. Bold concepts are exciting, but not every hype holds up. “Certain ingredients are still being studied. Bakuchiol taught us to ask harder questions,” she notes.

5. Cross-functional collaboration is key. Laboratory and marketing teams plan the future together. “When we speak the same language, the results are clearer — for us and the consumer.”

At BIOK LAB, we believe that thoughtful innovation grounded in science and collaboration is what leads to the next generation of skincare.
